There are two things you should know about me: 1) I have an iPhone 2) I know next to nothing about technology.
So, with that combination, you might be able to predict that I possess a poisonous case of Un-Appreciation [See also: First World Problems Disease, Ignorant Meh-ness (can be quite deadly. The only known cure is Passion)].
So, apparently I own an iPhone 5.
I could not have told you that until today when one of my classmates said, "Wow, you have an iphone 5?"
Me: "Uhhh, maybe? Or maybe it's a 4? I have no clue..."
Classmate: "Can I see it? *looks at phone* Yup, that's definitely a 5. Man, I wish I had an iPhone. I almost got one last month, ya know? My mom promised to buy me one, and I looked forward to it for like 3 months. But then she called me the other day and told me that she just can't afford it. So I got this other phone instead. And a backpack. I guess that's a fair compromise. It is a pretty sweet backpack, isn't it?"
Wow. He was so humble and appreciative. It stopped me cold. His heart was more grateful for a backback than mine was for an iPhone 5, the quintessential technological breakthrough.
Wow. What else have I been taking for granted?
This thanksgiving, I want to cultivate a heart as greatful as my friends. I want to have a response like him.
